The Armed Forces Covenant Regional Partnership organised a Community Covenant Day at The Barracks, Brecon on September 9. The Covenant sets out to encourage local communities to support the armed forces community in their area and promote understanding and awareness among the public of issues affecting the armed forces community.
Taking part were multi-agency partners including Powys County Council, Dyfed Powys Police, Wales and West Fire and Rescue Service, the Headquarters 160th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Wales, the Infantry Battle School. Joining the personnel from the Barracks were PAVO, SSAFA, The British Legion, POWYS Teaching Health Board, Military Police, Brecon Mountain Rescue, Cadet forces and much more. As well as offering career choice information there were plenty of fun activities for the younger visitors, including a climbing wall, inflatable rugby, face painting, pedal power Scalextric and badge making.
Supplementing the array of sirens being triggered by the children were members of The Band of The Prince of Wales's Division, who performed on the Balcony over looking the parade ground.
The free community fun days are taking place in Powys this month to celebrate the strong links between the military and civilian communities within the county. A second event will be held at The Park in Newtown on Saturday, September 23.
