In its ten year anniversary Talgarth Mill and its bakery are to appear on ITV’s Made in Britain.
Sarah Andrews, volunteer Miller showed the team from MiB how the grain is milled – by water power, before Nicola Craven, owner of the Real Bread bakery made a traditional Welsh favourite from the flour – Bara Brith.
‘This is a traditional Welsh tea bread’ said Nicola. ‘We soak the fruit overnight in tea before it is mixed with Talgarth Mill’s flour, sugar, eggs and spice and baked in loaf tins. It’s best served spread with salted Welsh butter.’
The Mill has been closed throughout the pandemic but production of flour has continued behind the scenes. What was a café and bakery has evolved into a bakery and takeaway offering real bread, sweet and savoury baked goods, drinks, stone baked pizzas, pies, curries, and in a collaboration with local producer Ty’r Gobaith’s Pantry – fine dining ‘at home’.
The programme will be on ITV 4 on 22nd April at 8pm.
