Update to On The Verge Talgarth supporters,
It's been a while since we met, and we hope you've caught up with our notices on F/B, Twitter etc.
The original sowings opposite the school have been a bit disappointing.
The perennial bed has lots of yellow rattle, but little else showing. For this first season we will cut, remove and compost, in early August. Then keep it closely mown throughout the months until late March '21, when we can assess how it's looking.
The annual seed sowing next to the perennials is showing very little results.
We fear that our "no dig" policy, for this particular site, was a mistake. We'll cut in late August and possibly remove the top mm of soil and resow in March '21.
Good news is that Powys CC have had the good grace not to cut the site - so we have, at least, preserved and maintained the habitat.
OTV have been given permission to utilise Jackie and John Wilding's garden in Talgarth, (located by main car park). It's quite a sizeable piece of ground, 40sq.m. We will be preparing and sowing the ground, hopefully, this September, with a special pollinator meadow mix .
This site will be of interest to everyone and John and Jackie are very supportive of our plans.
We have other projects on the backburner, ready to go.
We'll keep everyone interested in our quest for a more environmental approach to our daily living posted.
Thanks and stay safe all,
Martin - on behalf of OTV More stories
