Kaye Berry, chief executive officer of the Herefordshire-based CLD Trust which is a mental health and wellbeing charity which works primarily with children and young people, will talk to the Friends of Brecon and District Mind on Wednesday 10 April at The Muse, Brecon. She will describe the organisation and its programmes and, in particular, its early intervention project 'Strong Young Minds'.
The CLD Trust, concerned with Counselling, Learning and Development, was established in 1994 and provides a therapeutic service 'Healthy Minds, Healthy Futures', an early intervention service 'Strong Young Minds' as well as 'Participation Plus', a commitment to the involvement of young people in the design and development of services.
'Strong Young Minds' is a Big Lottery-funded project for 10-24 year olds who are disenfranchised, distressed, unemployed and at risk of social isolation, poor achievement and ill health due to poor mental health and wellbeing. It works with them to address issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-harm, bullying, cyber-bullying, relationship breakdown, employability, low self-esteem, body image and loss.
Kaye has over thirty-five years’ experience in developing and delivering young people’s services including careers services, targeted youth support, substance misuse and children’s rights and advocacy. She has worked as an additional inspector for Ofsted. Now living in rural Wales and working part time, she is keen to contribute to Welsh life and is learning Welsh.
The Friends support the work of Brecon and District Mind and raise awareness of mental health issues in and around Brecon, Crickhowell, Talgarth and Hay-on-Wye. It is open to everyone and holds talks, walks, social activities and fund-raising events.
