The Co-op Store in Talgarth led by Store Manager Clare Edwards and the very dedicated Talgarth team, today handed over two cheques to some of its Community Fund Scheme beneficiaries. So far the scheme has raised over £20 million for local projects that benefit communities across the UK.
First up to receive a cheque was the Gwernyfed High School Fund. The money will go towards fitting dance mirrors and equipment in the main hall. Pictured with Headmaster Mr. John Williams was Head Boy Ieuan Phillips and Megan Griffiths. Thrilled to receive the donation of £2,973.25, the Head thanked the community and Co-op staff, by swiping and supporting the School the local community gave 1% of their spend to the appeal and has ensured a great new facility within its local High School.

The second beneficiary of a cheque was the South Powys Community First Responders. Speaking to FYI, Mr Richard Akroyd Co-ordinator stressed how fantastic it was to receive the amount of £2,995.83 especially when they have just taken on 6 new recruits as responders. The money will go towards providing life-saving equipment for the team. Working as volunteers they provided an important role alongside the Welsh Ambulance Service.

When a patient faces a serious emergency, every second counts for them and a simple helping hand from a Community First Responder can make a vital difference to their lives. After a 999 call is made, First Responders are alerted by WAST‘s three control centres and are sent to certain types of calls the same time as an ambulance so they can provide essential care until the vehicle reaches the scene.
The volunteers are trained by the Welsh Ambulance Service to administer basic first aid skills, oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator.
By swiping your Co-op cards when you checkout, you not only receive 5% back of your spend, you also donate 1% to the community causes registered for the period. Well done to all the Co-op customers in Talgarth on raising such well-needed funds locally! FYI would like to thank Clare and the team for a great community morning. Good to see the funds going out the door!
