Fyi Talgarth caught up with the Talgarth Town Mayor who spoke to us about the 'Campaign to prevent Dog Fouling' as they launched their joint initiative!
Jacqui Wilding, Mayor had this to say: 'Talgarth Town Council (TC)commenced its Campaign to prevent Dog Fouling on Sunday 21st May 2017. The TC having engaged with Powys County Council (PCC)environmental health officers and with the Police, aim to work together in an attempt to keep our local area free from dog fouling.
It was evident that people are not reporting incidents which was hardly surprising as the contact numbers and how to report the problem isn't readily available. PCC have since put these details on their website and highlighted them in the Brecon and Radnor Express. The TC have put these details onto a business card and have distributed them to those who attended the first photo shoot and will make them available in Talgarth Information Resource Centre, our Co-op shop, our new Veterinary Practice and local businesses.
It is the intention of the TC to raise awareness and hopefully to encourage people to report those who do not clean up after there dogs (especially on our playing fields where children are at risk) to the environmental department using the contact details provided.
The Town Council have been fortunate to have the support of our new veterinary practice 'Hay Veterinary Group' (who have a surgery on Hay Road, Talgarth)' provided some pooh bags for Sunday and the details of 'Elanco' who have been generous enough to provide lead attachment bag holders and bags to distribute during our campaign (these will also be given out at our next photo shoot to be arranged in a few weeks). Contact the Council for details of where to acquire a bag holder.
We are grateful for your local photographer Ann Dierikx who is supporting the campaign by taking our pictures, which we plan to add to throughout the year as we honour the quality dog owners who ensure they clean up behind their dogs.
As this is such an issue throughout Welsh communities I have raised it with One Voice Wales to determine if this could be part of a National Campaign and it is my intention to put this forward as a motion (no pun intended) for the National Town and Community Council Conference.
It is interesting that people put their dog pooh into bags and then leave them behind or even hang them on trees albeit we have bins (and you can put bags into any bin it doesn't need to be a special dog bin) around our town.
Please report those not respecting our beautiful area and tell your friends to do so too, using the contact numbers below: '
Thank you
Mayor Jacqui Wilding
