** Thumbs up for William Denston Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrats and supporters at the Count.
FYI Talgarth covered the results of the Powys County Council elections and Community and Town elections in Builth at the Royal Welsh Show Ground on 5 May.
The main result for Talgarth was the re-election of Town County Councillor William Denston Powell (Liberal Democrat) who took a massive majority to be returned to his seat. Ryan Dixon (Labour) was there and the two shook hands and after the count, with Mr Powell paying tribute to his young opponent's challenge and commiserating with him on his defeat.

All Talgarth Town Council seats were uncontested and the current councillors were re-elected.
Well known and respected former MP Roger Williams retained his seat for Felin-Fach, and comfortably kept his position. Pictured below with William Denston Powell for Talgarth.
The Bronllys seat was taken by Karen Laurie-Parry (Independent).

The atmosphere through the day was jovial although with some surprises, a noticeable change being that of the newly elected member Emily Victoria Durrant (Wales Green Party) who ousted Melanie Davies (Independent), who had held the position for several years. Cheers were heard throughout the hall as Emily, who was unable to attend, was elected to the seat in Llangors giving the County a Green seat.
Members of the Welsh Green Party celebrate at the count!
Melanie Davies (Indépendent) had held Llangorse for many years and she took to the stage in an emotional thank you to her supporters, with thanks also to the residents of Llangorse for their support.
Other changes came in the form of James Evans (Welsh Conservatives) who took Gwernyfed, seeing Geraint Hopkins, a long standing councillor lose his seat. It would seem some voters in Powys had opted for change.

Other long standing Councillors such as Matthew Dorrance (Welsh Labour) and David Meredith (Welsh Labour and Co-Operative Party) comfortably resumed their seats on the council.

The Welsh Conservatives holding the second highest amount of seats saw many members returned to post.
Local businessman Harry Legge-Bourke (Welsh Conservatives) came second in his campaign for the ward of
Llangattock. He is seen here with Aled Davies of the Welsh Conservatives.

The local seat of Hay was taken again by Gareth Ratcliffe (Welsh Liberal Democrats) and he looked pleased to be representing the 'Town of Books' again!
