The local elections take place in Talgarth on Thursday May 4. The Polling Station is in the Town Hall.
Residents of Talgarth will be able to vote for Town Councillors and County Councillors.
The County Councillor seat is a contested seat so we endeavoured to contacted both candidates and asked for a statement and a photo. We have published what we have received. The Town Councillor seats are currently unopposed and the current councillors have put themselves forward.
The Talgarth County Councillor Seat is contested, the candidates are as follows:
Candidate : William Denston Powell 'Welsh Liberal Democrat'
(William Denston Powell pictured below with his wife Ria)
It's been an immense privilege to be Welsh Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Talgarth Ward over these past 12 years (encompassing the town of Talgarth and the communities of Trefecca, Pengenffordd, Llanelieu, Tredustan, Tregunter and Waun Fach.) I have done my best to be available to residents through home visits and my monthly advice surgery, hearing about the issues that matter to you.
On Thursday, it is your opportunity to choose the person you feel will work hardest for you, representing your views at County Hall - and holding Powys County Council to account.
A Record of Action
As your County Councillor I have:
Played a central role in the battle to save Gwernyfed High School from closure
Helped to secure our new area primary school in Talgarth, Ysgol y Mynydd Du
Campaigned successfully on 3 occasions to save Talgarth Library from closure
A Promise of More
If re-elected as your County Councillor on Thursday, I will:
Continue to fight for the independence of Gwernyfed High School, in the face of 'half baked' merger threats
Campaign for common sense on recycling - both here in Talgarth and at the Brecon facility
Continue to promote a business friendly climate in Talgarth - to deliver the jobs necessary to balance housing growth and take our town forward
Whilst next month's General Election is wide open, this County Council election in Talgarth Ward is a two horse race between myself and a Labour Party candidate. If it is your wish that I continue to serve the residents of this area, which I know and love, I would be grateful for your support.
Most important of all, however, is that you use your vote and so make your voice heard. Win or lose when the votes are counted on Friday, I am grateful for your support and friendship over recent years - and the warm welcome these past few weeks. Now, it's over to you!
Best wishes,
William
