Visitors to the Powys Careers Festival next Wednesday (8 March) will get a chance to see the 1,000mph Bloodhound Supersonic Car as part of their visit.
The festival is being organised by the multi-agency Positive Pathways Powys Group and is being held at the Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd. Year 10 and 12 pupils from the county’s schools, as well as students from the NPTC Group of Colleges in Powys, will be attending between 9am and 3pm. The free event is then being opened up to the public between 3pm and 5pm.
Cllr Arwel Jones, Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for Schools, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we are able to host such an iconic symbol of the pinnacle of engineering at the Powys Careers Festival. The team behind this car are determined to inspire the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians and we are fully behind this ambition.”
The event will be officially launched by the Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Education, Kirsty Williams AM.
Cllr Jones added: “We are also honoured that Kirsty Williams is giving her backing to this important initiative for the young people of Powys.”
Visitors to the event will also be able to have a go at a number of ‘hands-on’ experiences, including a robotic kit, a hydraulics trainer, green technology teaching set, a virtual welding unit and 3D animation technology.
They will also get a chance to meet the ‘Tackle’ team, a project backed by Wales four regional rugby teams – the Ospreys, Scarlets, Newport Gwent Dragons and Cardiff Blues - which aims to use to the sport to inspire young people to continue with education, learn new skills or acquire new training.
He added that the festival would be offering world-class advice and information on a wide range of pathways available to young people when they leave school or college. Exhibitors include multinational and small businesses, sixth forms and universities, public sector organisations, the military and emergency services and voluntary organisations.

- Sport
- Hospitality, tourism and leisure
- Hair and beauty
- Healthcare
- Emergency services, armed forces and utilities
- Media, creative and performing arts
- Retail, finance, business and law
- Construction
- Education, universities, colleges, schools and training providers
- IT and technology

The Positive Pathways Powys Group is a multi-agency partnership made up of all Powys Secondary Schools, Powys County Council, Careers Wales, The NPTC Group of Colleges, Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO) and Cambrian Training.
The group has been set up to ensure that all young people in the county are informed of the opportunities available to them when they finish compulsory education.
