Members and guests from the Talgarth & Pizzoferrato Twinning Association welcomed a delegation led by Mayor of Pizzoferrato, Mr Palmerino Fagnilli. The guests who were being hosted by local families were on a tight schedule of visits and enjoyed a 'Welcome' tea in the Town Hall, led by Mr Andy Lord, Cllr of Talgarth and the Mayor of Talgarth, Mrs Jacquie Wilding. The delegation from Italy was made up of Palmerino Fagnilli, Eugenio Ciccarelli, Eda Ciccarelli, Daniela De Juliis, Fabio Di Cesare and Adriano Amorosi.
A sumptuous spread was provided for refreshment, with cakes and sandwiches made by many local residents. During the tea, presentations were made by local children from Gwernyfed High School and former pupils of Llangorse and Talgarth Primary Schools. Included in the presentation were a commemoration plaque, and books by renowned local Author Owen Sheers, famed for his book 'Resistance', a fictional account of a story of a community in a nearby Welsh valley defending themselves against an invading German Army. The book led nicely into a presentation by Eugenio Ciccarelli, the UK based Italian co-ordinatior of the Twinning Association, on the story of the English/Pizzoferrato guerlla-defence during the 2nd World War. The story was told through local film archives and a slide show.
FYI asked the Mayor of Pizzoferatto for his comments on the visit and he had this to say
"Un grazie di cuore a tutta la comunità di Talgarth per la calorosa accoglienza che ci hanno riservato in occasione della prima delle 4 delegazioni previste per il prossimo mese. Una bellissima esperienza che rimarrà sempre nei nostri ricordi e nei nostri cuori.
A heartfelt thanks to all the community of Talgarth for the warm welcome we have received during the first of the four delegations scheduled for next month. A wonderful experience that will always remain in our memories and in our hearts.." - Palmerino Fagnilli, Mayor of Pizzoferrato.
The second of the visits takes place this weekend, with food and wine producers from the region showcasing their wares on Saturday 4th in the Town Hall.
