FYI Talgarth was asked to join Powys County Councillor & Talgarth Town Councillor William Denston Powell on a site visit to the repairs currently underway on the A479 Talgarth - Pengenffordd - Crickhowell road. We were escorted by Stuart Mitchell, Civil Engineer for Powys County Council to see for ourselves what the road closure is actually all about.
The closure of the A479 trunk road at Whitelow farm, from 04/02/17 – 8am until the planned reopening on 14/02/17 – 5pm is to carry out essential landslip repair works on behalf of the North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency & Welsh Government. During the works the carriageway has been closed to all traffic at this location and due to the prolonged traffic lights on the road, many FYI followers have asked what is going on?
As you can see from our photos, the work is quite extensive and a total closure has been necessary to guard the public road users and to allow plant access to the site. We hope this insight to the works clarifies and gives information to residents.
During the week following completion of these works the North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency also intends to undertake further essential works on the A479 between the Tre-Walkin junction and Cwmdu. For safety reasons intermittent closure of discrete road sections will be required whilst the works progress along the route.
All further road user enquires should be directed to Powys County Council.
With thanks to Councillor William Denston Powell and Mr Stuart Mitchell of Powys County Council.
